The design specs for the re-envisioning of this kitchen read a little like that traditional wedding rhyme… old, new, borrowed, blue… The eclectic mishmash of contemporary, reused, salvaged and natural materials, vibrant colours, and lots of light, mimic the personalities and values of the family who cook, eat, entertain, play and relax in this space.

Both literally and figuratively the heart of this home, we had to ensure that it also exudes soul. Keep the cookie cutters for the baking, please! Retaining design elements that already worked well; incorporating objects and materials the family had found in their work and travels; and just finding a way to harmonize all the various things that they liked, regardless of its assumed style or era, led to the creation of this happy gathering place. Who wouldn’t want to have a cup of afternoon tea or light a birthday cake in this kitchen?

Before... A little drab, don't ya think?

After: Hooray!

Old radiator, new shelves, old leaded windows, new farm sink...

Colour! Blue was chosen to ad visual depth + personality, and differentiate the kitchen/dining space from other areas within the open living floor plan.
