Every project starts as an idea. Our team transforms ideas into feasible plans. Our planning and design portfolio is diverse – affordable housing, social enterprise, public health, downtown planning, residential design… What we consistently bring to every project is our ability to listen and crystallize a vision, build understanding and support, look at options, and create plans and designs that inspire. Our roots in construction guide our practical approach to planning that, from the very beginning, considers the impacts and costs of every project.
Elizabeth FitzZaland, MCIP leads our planning and design projects. Elizabeth has 15 years of experience working as a professional planner, designer and consultation specialist in communities small and large. While she has a strong background in land use policy and regional planning, she prefers working on smaller, more tangible projects that require close collaboration with clients, community members and other professionals.
Affordable housing, car-alternative transportation, ecological conservation and food security are issues near and dear to our company, and where we are currently focusing much of our planning and design work. Recent and ongoing projects on Salt Spring Island include a 24-unit affordable housing neighbourhood; rezoning for the Salt Spring Abattoir; site planning and rezoning for a 6-unit farmworkers village; design and permitting for a new cidery, and; development consulting for a food recovery-based social enterprise and an island-wide, non-profit run, waste management solution.
